Mayor and City Council of Brenham Press Release Regarding Racial Tensions

Mayor Milton Tate and the Brenham City Council released a letter today to address the challenges our community is currently facing. Coming rapidly on the heels of the COVID-19 pandemic, the racial tension sparked by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis has ignited throughout the country. The letter states unequivocally that, "The City of Brenham stands with our community, our State and Nation in condemning incidents of violence and clearly declares that racism has no place in our community or society."

The letter reflects on the peaceful protests that have taken place in Brenham noting, "We have seen peaceful protests within our community that highlight that there is still work to be done..." while also commenting that the peaceful protests "...show the strength of our community that even with difference, we can come together and have respectful and productive discussions about our concerns."
